People who eat a plant-based vegetarian or vegan diet lose more weight than those who eat meat.Researchers reviewed 12 studies with more than 1,150 people who followed different weight loss plans for about 18 weeks. They found that those who followed a plant-based diet shed roughly four pounds more on average than those whose meals included meat.

Add to that, the information about how well people lost weight with the favorite dieters plant-based food, the grapefruit.  There is good reason for this traditional diet food to be a regular part of your plant-based diet. A study done by Dr. James Cerd of the University of Florida concluded that grapefruit helps dissolve fat and cholesterol.

An average sized grapefruit has 74 calories, delivers a whopping 15 grams of pectin (the special fiber linked to lowering cholesterol and fat), is high in vitamin C and potassium and is free of fat and sodium.

It’s rich in natural galacturonic acid, which adds to its potency as a fat and cholesterol fighter. The additional benefit here is assistance in the battle against atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and the development of heart disease.

You can incorporate grapefruit into a plant-based diet in the following ways:

1. Eat a whole grapefruit along with the rest of your breakfast.

2. Add it to your morning smoothie.

3. Mix grapefruit sections into a fruit bowl.

4. Top a green salad with grapefruit sections.

And, here's a plant-based diet food tip. Slice a grapefruit in half, top with a sprinkle of cinnamon rather than sugar to take away some of the tart taste.

Enjoy adding this delightful, tart and healthy fruit to your plant-based diet on a regular basis
